My friend Verbal One shared this site with me and I love it. It guides my thinking. At Booking Through Thursday they post a question about reading, you copy the question and post an answer. Here is my Thursday Thought."If you’re anything like me, one of your favorite reasons to read is for the story. Not for the character development and interaction. Not because of the descriptive, emotive powers of the writer. Not because of deep, literary meaning hidden beneath layers of metaphor. (Even though those are all good things.) No … it’s because you want to know what happens next?
Or, um, is it just me?"
Or, um, is it just me?"
I do love the story. I love finding the key traits that help me relate to the characters of the story. Would I do that? Would I say it that way? I love those store lines that draw me into the experience. Someone with a life different from my own. That just for a moment, or a few hours..I can be in the life of the story. Once I begin a book I really like, I am immersed in it for a while. I leave chores, tv, and dialog with family for a while. Recently I did not blog or watch TV for a week because I was lost in a story. My husband really had to watch most of the Olympics by himself! If the story is very compelling, I regret when the story ends. Like I have lost something. There is a mourning period. I cannot just start another book. But soon, I seek out the recommendations of friends for another story to get lost in. I really do not like it when I have an author I love and then have to wait many months for the next book to be written. In 2008 my resolution was to read more books. I found myself avoiding reading because I hated it when the good ones were finished. Sounds crazy when I actually put in down in print. I do love to try out new parts and challenge my thinking. Most of the time I learn something about myself in between the pages and lines.
"Abundance is...the first page of a new novel from a favorite author."
